2008 Cervelo P2SL Ultegra

2008 Cervelo P2SL Ultegra

2008 Cervelo P2SL Ultegra

The Ultegra equipped version of the Cervelo P2SL carries a Cervelo MSRP of $1650 (our price varies, call us at 313 278 1350 for details) making it the nicest frame available around $1500 for a complete bike.

For about $200 less (our price varies, call us at 313 278 1350 for details) the differences between the P2SL Dura-Ace and Ultegra bikes are:

    • Shimano Ultegra front and rear derailleurs (as opposed to Dura-Ace on the Dura-Ace equipped version).
    • Gloss racing yellow paint scheme as opposed to pewter anodized finish on P2SL Dura-Ace.

If frame quality is critical to you- and it should be- the Ultegra equipped P2SL makes a lot of sense. This is not a watered down version of the P2SL frameset- it is exactly the same frameset as the Dura-Ace equipped version for $200 less at MSRP (our price varies, call us at 313 278 1350 for details).

The Ultegra equipped P2SL wears a dazzling sunrise/racing yellow paint scheme. Yellow is a traditional color among triathlon bikes evoking the warm sunshine of a beautiful race day. The yellow pant scheme puts a smile on our face.

As with the Dura-Ace equipped version all the key features are here: Most importantly, a truly aerodynamic frame. Cervelo frame shapes actually provide an aerodynamic benefit, unlike many other company’s frames that only look aerodynamic. The down tube, seat tube and seat post all use the proprietary airfoil shapes developed by Cervelo for use on the original P2 series and also used on the previous P3 and P3SL bikes. The P2SL Ultegra also uses the Cervelo adjustable rear wheel cut out. This feature improves rear wheel aerodynamics and even makes race wheels more efficient. Ride quality of the P2SL is uncanny for an about $1500 bike because of the uniquely butted Cervelo Smartwall 2 aluminum tubing. This proprietary tubing, used only by Cervelo, provides excellent stiffness and unbelievable comfort in an aluminum frame. Add to these features a very wide fit band due to the adjustable geometry and a nicely constructed frame with dependable internal cable routing.

Is the $200 price difference between the two bikes justifiable for an up-spec front and rear derailleur and a different frame finish? Read our detailed examination of the differences between Ultegra and Dura-Ace here to help you decide. With either component set the P2SL is an arguably the nicest aluminum triathlon bike available if it fits you correctly.
